Chained Echoes - in the world of Valandis, magic and technology go hand in hand: dragons and flying robots surprise no one, and wars are fought using both swords and combat mechs. A squad of mercenaries finds themselves drawn into a conflict that is more difficult to understand than simply killing their enemies. The battles are turn-based, but with an unusual overheating system: in order to receive boosts, the squad needs to keep the scale in a certain zone, and overkill leads to overheating and unnecessary problems. You have to balance between damage and defense, changing techniques as the battle progresses. Overheating the gauge forces you to change the tempo: you cannot use the same technique all the time, otherwise the squad will be at a disadvantage. Characters are customized through crystals and classes: the same fighter can be a healer, tank or mage, if you collect the right set of skills. Our own combat vehicles are also developing, and battles on them follow their own rules. The story is presented in the spirit of classic Japanese role-playing games: a lot of dialogue, alternating characters and several storylines. Side missions are not limited to cleaning up - some of them reveal the past of the companions. The world is assembled from disparate locations: pirate islands, flying fortresses, underground ruins and cities on the water. Between chapters, the characters' pasts are revealed through dreams and short scenes, and some questions remain open until the very end. The squad is engaged in hunting strong opponents and collecting rare equipment, and some of the bosses are designed for the late stage.
