High On Life is a humorous first-person shooter with Metroidvania elements. It is made in a science fiction setting. The game differs from other representatives of the FPS genre in that the guns here can talk. Trunks often comments on the player's actions and makes jokes. They have many prepared lines. For those who do not like this feature, the developers have added the ability to adjust the frequency of phrases in the settings. This project is divided into levels. At the same time, the video game encourages you to return to previously completed locations. There are temporarily unavailable places on the maps. To get into them, you need to get an upgrade, for example, allowing you to cling to ledges with a whip or a jetpack. Having received new abilities, the user can return to any already viewed stage and collect everything missed in the chests. They usually store currency that is used to purchase upgrades or collectibles. The story in HOL follows the adventures of an unlucky teenager. After graduating from high school, he did not find a decent job, did not go to college, and did not achieve any significant success. But suddenly he had to become a hero because the Garmantuosa gang attacked the Earth. Aliens want to use humans as drugs. A would-be defender of humanity discovers a talking weapon from a real bounty hunter and instead sets off to save the world from the alien G3 cartel. Justin Roiland, who wrote the script for “Rick and Morty” and other animated series aimed at adult audiences, was responsible for the plot of the comedy.
