Геймплей MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD немного переработан по сравнению с прошлой частью. Мы не просто убиваем монстров, делаем новую экипировку, а теперь оружие делится на несколько классов, и, по факту, в начале игры мы является чем-то вроде «нейтрального персонажа». В новой экосистеме зародились охотники, которые будут создавать невероятно трудные условия для существования монстров. Драконы, летающие динозавры (не похожие на драконов), и прочая тварь населяет эту эко-систему. В игру мы входим как простой охотник, который начинает выслеживать местную фауну с одним лишь простым луком или пушкой. Дамага много не наносим, зато можем понять, какие ресурсы стоят наших сил, а что забирать точно не придется. Постепенно, как только мы крафтим самую первую нормальную пушку, выступаем на первого зверя, забираем его предметы, шкуру, другие ценные ресурсы и идем дальше. Покорение огромного открытого мира с мрачной атмосферой не ограничивается только убийством и выслеживанием. Игра является многопользовательской, поэтому соревнование снаряжения, стелс-ловушки и другие методы победы одного персонажа на сервере. Каждая вылазка игроков в Новый Свет — это попытка найти дракона Дзора Магдарос. В этом нам помогают специальные светлячки, которые ведут по следам раненного животного; самострел, который позволяет собирать предметы и швырять в монстров — тоже как вариант убийства; бонусные специальные эффекты, дающие броню, здоровье или улучшенный урон; Также у охотников есть маленькие помощники — Палико, которые больше напоминают кота, для которого вступить в Пятый Флот — великая и последняя цель в жизни.
