Road Rash

Road Rash is a road madness from 1991, one of the first games to show that racing could also be a fight. The task is extremely simple: get to the finish line, overtaking everyone, but no one obliges you to do it honestly. The tracks meander along the coast, forest roads and desert highways, and on the way there are signs, trees, fences and civilians who are best not to be hit. Victory brings money, but they also pay for any place they reach - the amount depends on the final position. With the proceeds they buy motorcycles, upgrades and some of their arsenal: fists, clubs, tire irons and other tools of persuasion. Strikes do not come for free, but a good counterattack allows you to take the weapon away from your opponent. The bike has a damage scale, which it is better not to bring to zero, otherwise the race will end in a fall. After the accident, the hero gets up himself and continues the race, losing precious time, and the riders in front are already far away. Weather, terrain and traffic add to the chaos, making the finish sometimes feel like a miracle. Success led to sequels: the second and third parts were released on the same platform, and later the series moved to other systems. The rules remained the same - fast motorcycles, fights at speed and a complete lack of sentimentality towards rivals. The music of the time and crude humor added a charm to the proceedings that is rarely remembered in modern racing games. The game was released on the Sega Mega Drive and instantly became a cult favorite for its boldness and humor. The Road Rash is a simple-in-idea, ruthless-in-execution attraction that is still fun to check out for a couple of rides.
