UnderRail is an isometric role-playing game about a world after an environmental disaster, where people live in underground metro stations. There is enmity between them, and the surface has long been unsuitable for life. The character is assembled from skills and characteristics even before the start. Crafting and trading rely on found trash, and some items are made only according to drawings. The stations are connected by tunnels, where animals and gangs live. The tunnels are divided by threat level, and it is better not to get involved in an open battle with the locals. The stations live by trade and hostility, and some of the tasks are related to fights between people. Tools and weapons are made on a workbench, and electronics require rare circuit boards. Supplies are counted individually, so loot is collected even from small items. Traps are placed in advance and help in battles with strong opponents. Some doors are opened by objects that lie in other tunnels. Opponents are divided into people and animals, and the tactics against them are different. Severe wounds take a long time to heal, so first aid kits are spent wisely. Skills are unlocked with points, which can be returned and redistributed. Some locations are connected only through guarded passages. Metro communities give tasks and require proof of loyalty. Merchants accept junk and exchange it for ammunition and first aid kits. Some of the tunnels are flooded and a diving suit is needed. A failure in dialogue can cost lives, so it is better to think than to argue.
