Indie games are the freedom of small teams: unusual mechanics, brave stories and an author's vision instead of big-studio templates. Half of the genre novelties of the last decade grew out of indie — from metroidvanias to social simulators with unexpected endings. This section gathers independent projects of all sizes: award-winning hits and strictly niche works you have not heard about yet. Sizes are usually modest; ideas are not.
