The Evil Within 2 questions the concept of complex stealth horror laid down by the authors in the previous part of the duology. The spirit of the sequel is more like a third-person action movie in which horror is a vestigial element. The game does not impose tension and horror on the user, but at the same time forces the player to always be on guard. The plot is not too complicated. The game begins its story with trump cards at the very beginning. Literally from the very beginning it is clear who is the hero, who is the victim, who is the villain and how to solve the problem, but as the problem is solved, difficulties arise. Thus, the main character is a desperate detective Sebastian Castellanos, who is trying to drown out his grief over the loss of his daughter at the bottom of a bottle at the local diner where he is a frequent guest. The daily drinking sessions are interrupted by Julie Kidman, the detective's former partner. The girl tells him the news that Lily, his daughter, is alive, but is in the clutches of the Mobius corporation. Her goal is to connect the girl to the STEM system, a virtual reality machine, and turn her brain into the core of a system in the digital world of which thousands of people have found a new life for themselves, settling in the 3D town of Union. In the best traditions of the genre, the system fails, the connection with Lily is severed, and new information appears that a real psychopath is operating in Union, who managed to bypass the system. He kills civilians and makes sculptures of their mutilated bodies, which he then scans in 3D and displays. He recently contacted Lily. Those who die in the virtual world die in the real one. Sebastian has no choice but to dive into the hacked and malfunctioning STEM to find the bastard, deal with him and save his daughter. The situation is complicated by the fact that the residents there have turned into bloodthirsty monsters and zombies, which are a lot of trouble to deal with. The third-person gameplay consists of constantly exploring the world in search of cartridges, gunpowder, first aid kits and other auxiliary things designed to facilitate the protagonist’s journey. Resources are scarce, enemies are strong, and you have a choice - go forward or act stealthily and wield a knife.
