The Victory Boxing 2 came out in the late nineties when console boxing was booming. Outside of Japan, it was known as Contender, and it was made by Victor Interactive Software.. The game did not claim the title of the best in the genre, but it found its audience: for PlayStation it was an understandable and fair version of evening fights. Control is based on simple actions: hit, block, dodge, step. The combinations differ, and stamina is limited by greed - a series of blows without a break ends with the hero barely raising his arms. Counterattacks deserve special attention: caught in time allows you to end the round early. There are single battles, a tournament mode and a path to the belt, where the opponents gradually become more serious. The fighters differ in style: some press forward, others work as number two. Difficulty options allow you to choose a level at which the game does not turn into either boredom or torture. Separately, it is worth noting that the battle can be played by two people on one screen, and such matches go differently: the computer rarely makes mistakes the way a live opponent makes mistakes. Each fighter has his own indicators of endurance and punching power, which means that choosing a match for meetings should be done consciously. There are also different arenas, from halls to outdoor areas, which adds variety to the party. Today it is a museum exhibit: angular models, meager sounds, minimal design. But for those who remember what the box looked like on the first gray console, the Victory Boxing 2 remains a fond memory - and quite playable.
