FIFA 99 does not include a gym mode, and gameplay is now more responsive thanks to tweaked control mechanics. This simulator has changed the composition of the championships: the Belgian First Division and the Portuguese Primeira Liga have been added, and the Malaysian League has been excluded. The emergence of the Portuguese championship provoked a dispute over regional rights, the purpose of which was to prevent the sale of the title. This version also features basic facial animation, athletes of varying heights, and unlicensed club uniforms and emblems. Significant changes and additions to FIFA 99 gameplay: • The emergence of the Belgian First Division and the Portuguese Premier League. • Introduction of the exclusive European Dream League. • Adding a set of teams under the Rest of Europe flag. • The ability for gamers to create their own tournaments. • Implementation of basic animation of faces and different heights of athletes. The title features the European Dream League, a special division in which 20 European teams compete in a round-robin format. For the first time in FIFA 99, a set of clubs called "Rest of Europe" are introduced that are not part of the main leagues available to play. These teams were mainly drawn from those that took part in the Champions League, UEFA Cup or Cup Winners' Cup during the 1998–99 season. In addition, the new feature allows gamers to create their own cups and tournaments by selecting specific teams to participate.
