In Half Sword, you start out as a commoner seeking to become a knight by winning tournaments that take place in recreated locations in Europe from the period. The combat system applies physics calculations to the interaction of weapons, armor and bodies, trying to convey the characteristics of mastery of various means of defense and attack. Input from Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) experts informed the development of the combat system and character movements. Learning the special techniques necessary for victory occurs through training and direct participation in battles. Successfully surviving combat brings glory and money, giving you the opportunity to buy new equipment or forge your own armor and weapons. You can choose equipment that matches your preferred fighting style. There is an opportunity to bet on your success in battles, adding an element of risk for a potential increase in loot. Since the game functions as a simulation, the death of a character is final for the current session, permanently ending his development.
