Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a first-person shooter set in an alternate history of World War II, where Reichsführer SS Himmler builds an army on technology and the occult. In the role of William Blaskowitz, known as Agent 2 from the Office of Secret Actions organization, you need to get into the very heart of the Third Reich. The quest leads through fortresses, catacombs, villages and secret laboratories. Along the way, you come across both ordinary soldiers and experiments that can no longer be classified as soldiers. Each chapter changes the setting and requirements for the player. The arsenal is wide: Colt and Luger pistols, MP-40 and MG-42 machine guns, as well as rarer examples like the “Zub” and sniper rifles. Grenades and dynamite solve fights in close quarters. Some scenes are more convenient to go through quietly, with a knife. The difficulty is adjustable, and at high levels enemies shoot more accurately. Occult scenes give way to regular battles in the trenches. Secrets are hidden in inconspicuous corners, and bonuses are given for them. Some tasks require returning to places that have already been completed. Parachutes and elevators provide shortcuts between floors. Heavy weapons like the Tooth leave little ammo. Secret doors are opened by levers that need to be found. Checks at different levels change the behavior of enemies. Secret rooms are opened for collected items. Occult experiments are carried out in underground halls. Some chapters are more convenient to go through secretly. Weapons can be changed during the mission. For those who like classic shootouts with a dark environment, the game is suitable.
