STEINS;GATE - Okabe Rintaro is a self-proclaimed mad scientist who, along with his friends, accidentally invents a way to send messages to the past. Hobby quickly ceases to be a game. The characters are drawn in detail, each with their own character and motives, and this is noticeable even in short scenes. The novella begins slowly: everyday life in the laboratory, conversations about theories, orders from the store and jokes about the microwave. Then the plot goes sideways, and the rewritten past begins to return as problems in the present. The story begins with jokes, but gradually becomes more serious and at times almost unbearable. Each intervention changes the world more than expected, and some of the consequences cannot be corrected. The endings depend on what messages the player sends, and there are several of them, including one bitter one. Relationships within the team change throughout the story, and not all conflicts are resolved by the end. Separate threads are dedicated to other laboratory participants, and they show what happened away from the main line. There are a lot of dialogues, and they are presented with anime illustrations and voice acting. Some events are revealed only with a certain sequence of actions, and for the sake of a complete picture, the story is repeated more than once. In addition to the main line, there are branches of individual heroines, and each adds their own point of view on what is happening. The atmosphere of summer, laboratory and city streets contrasts with what happens next. Some of the characters’ lines are perceived differently after you find out how their summer will end. In addition to the main story, there are bonus episodes, and they complement the overall picture. For everyone who is ready for a long story about time, friendship and the cost of intervention.
